Many companies that focus on sales will do some silly things in the hopes that it will improve the sales of the company. There is some idea that if the company can keep the sales people motivated they will sell well, so there are meetings in the morning that get everyone excited to be out there selling the product. While this will make it easier for them to sell that day, this misses a lot of people who are still grumpy while this is happening and won’t really perk up until latter in the day. It also generally misses the point that it is not the purpose of the company to keep the sales people motivated but rather it is the responsibility of the sales person. Many companies also make a point of doing these meetings often but will never send their people through some kind of sales training assuming that these sales meetings can stand in the place of giving them proper training in how to sell.
If as a company you still feel strongly that there is something that should be done to facilitate the sales people more than you already are, consider investing in some quality sales training and maybe even some products that will help make sales more efficient. While you may feel like your sales people already know all the sales information that they need to know this probably isn’t true and giving them some time to practice being undeniably most charming and charismatic sales person they can be will help them improve sales.
There are other effects of going through sales training. These sorts of things are fun for sales people and some of the best sales training will include some kind of team building , although it might not be overt. There is something about comradery, fun and the memories of that time that can keep a whole team of sales people going for a much longer time. They come back with stories that can be told when they are feeling a little down about something that is happening and help perk them back up again.
